How can i begin recycling?

I want to start going green or whatever, but I need somewhere to start. I'm going to start recycling, but I kinda don't know how lol. Like do I need to get a certain kind of recycling bin or something? Do I just start setting it out beside the trash to be collected? I need some help. Oh, and any tips on how to start conserving energy or anything like that would be helpful too, thanks.
