Can I sew a simple long skirt without a pattern?

Skirts are easy to sew but you really do need a pattern. I've never done a skirt with an elastic waist but I'm sure it's easier than putting in a zipper which I have done. Patterns aren't expensive and you can use them over and over again. so, it's worth buying one. If you aren't familiar with pattern sizing be sure to use your measurements to get the correct size pattern. Also, I have found that buying fabric can be just about as expensive as buying off the rack clothing. (That's why I don't sew clothes anymore.) So, make a test skirt with some cheap material before you go out and buy a bunch of velvet.
